Chelsea are set to announce a contract extension for Thiago Silva in the coming days after the Brazilian agreed to stay at the club following the side’s 1-0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League final.

The Brazilian joined the Blues on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and signed an initial one-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, his contract includes the option of a 12-month extension clause that requires both parties to agree in order for it to be activated.

Though Silva has struggled with injuries at points over the last year, the veteran has been in fine form for the Blues and the club have made it clear they want him to stay next term.

Silva came off after just nine minutes in Porto as Chelsea won the Champions League for the second time in their history against Manchester City.

After tasting defeat in last year’s final against Bayern Munich with PSG, Silva finally got his hands on the European Cup for the first time after Kai Havertz’s goal decided the game in Porto.

And widespread reports since the final claim Silva has now been convinced to stay at Stamford Bridge and that an announcement on his extension will come in the coming days.

Thomas Tuchel Latest comment hand Aston Villa a big transfer blow.

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is once again a transfer target for Aston Villa, according to reports.

Loftus-Cheek, 25, was linked with a move to Villa Park last summer but the club snapped up Ross Barkley instead. Loftus-Cheek joined Fulham and made 30 appearances as the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

However, the Daily Star claims Villa are back in the mix for Loftus-Cheek and his Chelsea teammate Tammy Abraham – who enjoyed an extremely successful loan spell in B6 in 2018/19.

Abraham’s future at Stamford Bridge appears to be over with new boss Thomas Tuchel preferring the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud in attack.

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to secure £40million for Abraham in the summer transfer window.

Loftus-Cheek’s situation is slightly different. Although it would be difficult for the midfielder to force his way into Tuchel’s Champions League-winning team, the German coach recently admitted to being a long-term admirer of the England international.

“I was quite a fan of him when he was even younger,” Tuchel said. “It reminded us a bit of his style of play and movements with Michael Ballack. There were some links about him all the time with maybe a move to the German league so we were well aware of his talent.

“He is on loan now and doing well. It would be unfair to judge him from TV. I like to work with players and give my opinion then – maybe also pretty quick but also from a direct impression. I don’t know what my opinion is or the club’s opinion is. There’s no decision made yet.”
