Manchester United have been warned they won’t find it easy to prise Raphael Varane away from Real Madrid this summer.

But are still confident that agreeing personal terms won’t be a problem.

United are set to continue their free-spending summer transfer window by looking to bring in a new centre-back.

Jadon Sancho is set to officially join in the days following Sunday’s European Championship final, signing from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £73million.

Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes is also being looked at, and United have been quoted £25m for the 18-year-old midfield phenom.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still wants a new centre-back, with Varane their top target for the position.

The Frenchman has just a year to run on his contract with Real Madrid, but is reportedly eager to leave.

Varane, 28, has been linked with United in the past, and is reportedly eager to move to the Premier League this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on his ‘Here We Go‘ podcast this week that Madrid are still yet to speak to his agents, but are planning to hold talks.

And United have been warned that it won’t be easy to sign Varane, despite his contractual situation.

Romano also explained that United could have the upper hand due to the defender wanting to try something news.

“The situation is that Real Madrid are waiting to talk with his agents,” he said.

“But the feeling is that Varane wants to try something different.

“This is the situation, but that’s not decided yet because Real Madrid will try to talk with Varane and convince him to sign a new contract.

“But the player wants to try something new, that’s why Manchester United are interested and have had direct contact with Real Madrid.

“At the moment there’s no agreement between Manchester United and Real Madrid. They’re talking, but it’s not at an advanced stage.

“They think personal terms won’t be an issue, but it’s up to see what Real Madrid will ask for.

“When you are negotiating with Real Madrid for a player like this, nothing is easy.”
