Manchester United star Paul Pogba is on the transfer radar of PSG amid uncertainty over his Old Trafford future.
The France international flourished at Euro 2020 and, with just one year left on his contract, could be on the move.
So with swap deals set to become more commonplace after the pandemic, it’s time to look at four players the Red Devils may demand in return.
It would, of course, be fanciful. But the Manchester Evening News revealed in April that United were monitoring Neymar’s situation at PSG, with the Brazil international admired by the Red Devils hierarchy.
Since then, the Brazil international has signed a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
Yet if United are to lose one Galactico in Pogba, they’d want another to take his place.
And they could certainly do a lot worse than Neymar who, despite his injury issues in recent years, remains one of the best players in world football.
It was also revealed by the MEN that United were keeping an eye on Kylian Mbappe’s situation, too.
The France international, who endured a wretched Euro 2020 campaign, is out of contract next summer. What’s more, no renewal looks likely at the current moment in time.
It’s been widely assumed Real Madrid will get the 2018 World Cup winner, whether that’s this summer or next.
But United could be tempted to demand Mbappe, even if PSG would loathe to lose him.
While that’s the case, however, the Ligue 1 side wouldn’t want him going for nothing next year. So a direct swap deal could suit both parties, though the player’s preference does appear to be a move to Spain.
United are huge admirers of Marco Verratti.Jose Mourinho thought about chasing the Italy international back in the summer of 2017, only to ultimately opt against it.
Since then, the PSG midfielder’s stock has risen – with Verratti now recognised as one of the best midfielders on the planet.
A swap deal would be good for United, meaning they get a world-class replacement for Pogba in the same deal.
Yet PSG are likely to be stubborn when it comes to the 28-year-old given his vast importance to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
If United were to demand Marquinhos, they’d be met with a flat ‘no’.
But PSG may be more willing to cash in on Presnel Kimpembe instead, especially with so many hot prospects coming through their ranks.
United were linked with the France international back in the summer of 2019, only for Harry Maguire to join instead.
As things stand, their top defensive target is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
Yet if the 28-year-old stays at the Bernabeu, something that can’t be entirely ruled out, United may be forced to look at alternatives.
And Kimpembe is certainly a player worth considering.
