Chelsea have, on Thursday afternoon, unveiled the club’s Premier League squad for the season ahead, including a trio of out-of-favour stars.

It of course proved an altogether busy summer in the west of London.

On the back of a heavy recruitment drive over the last twelve months, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea squad was left bloated with fringe options, the vast majority of whom were unlikely to carve out any real playing time over the course of the 201/22 season.

In turn, it was left to Marina Granovskaia and co. to seek homes for a whole host of out-of-favour players.

And, to the credit of the long-heralded transfer team at Stamford Bridge, this is precisely what they went on to do.

Considerable fees were secured for all of Kurt Zouma, Davide Zappacosta, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, whilst Olivier Giroud and Victor Moses were both moved on on a permanent basis, too.

The Pensioners outflux did not end there, though.

No fewer than ten players were farmed out on loan, as the panel of stars at the disposal of boss Tuchel, upon the window slamming shut last week, was finally trimmed to a reasonable number.

Barkley included

Not all, however, managed to secure much-needed departures.

The most notable were Ross Barkley and Malang Sarr, the latter of whom saw a loan switch to Bundesliga outfit Greuther Furth collapse at the last minute.

But, as outlined above, if the latest activity on the part of the club is anything to go by, then it appears that Chelsea are ready to do their utmost to ensure that the club’s fringe stars feel part of the project in West London.

As confirmed across social media this afternoon, Barkley and Sarr have been afforded a place in Thomas Tuchel’s Premier League squad for the campaign ahead.

The pair’s jersey numbers have been revealed too, with the former set to take on the no.18, and Sarr the Blues’ new no.31.

Also named as part of Chelsea’s domestic panel are midfielder Lewis Baker – fresh off the back of a solid spell in Turkey with Trabzonspor – and, as expected, Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

It’s not bad to have Barkley as a sixth choice option in a two-man midfield or Sarr as a seventh central defender but I assume they’d have prefered loan spells out of the club.

Barkley gives his no8 shirt to Kovacic and takes #18, Sarr #31 & Baker #32. #CFC
