The German replied: “It would be absurd to think that it could work with them here. They are both too old and too expensive.”
At the time of the conversation, Ronaldo was 31 while Messi with just 29 years old. However, Rangnick’s answer shouldn’t surprise those who know him well.
The 63-year-old specialist is known for putting his faith in young players at whatever club he’s employed, mostly recruiting footballers under the age of 24.
And as Rangnick is about to become Manchester United’s interim manager, Cristiano is facing a prospect of working with someone who called him ‘too old’ five years ago.
