According to Alfredo Pedulla, Arsenal tabled a bid to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, but the talented centre-forward rejected the Gunners.
It is no secret that Mikel Arteta’s priority in the upcoming summer transfer window is to sign a new striker. Alexandre Lacazette looks set to leave Arsenal to return to Lyon, while Eddie Nketiah’s future hasn’t been secured just yet.
Irrespective of what happens with the young Englishman, Arsenal have to bring in a top-quality striker this summer, and they have been linked with a number of excellent forwards in recent months.
Italy and Sassuolo star Scamacca is one of them, but it looks like he doesn’t fancy a move to North London.
Arsenal have bid for Gianluca Scamacca
Scamacca is one of the most talented players in the Serie A. He scored 16 goals for Sassuolo last season and even though he only recently signed a new deal, it is very likely he’ll leave.
The report claims that Inter Milan are the favourites to sign the Italian, and he’s keen on a move to the San Siro as well. However, the Nerazzurri focusing on other deals at the moment has opened the door for different clubs to come in.
Arsenal saw the opening and reportedly went in with a bid of £34 million plus bonuses. That is a fair opening offer for a player like Scamacca, but the Gunners, sadly, failed.
The report claims that the ‘fearless striker’ rejected a move to the Emirates ‘almost immediately’. He wants to stay in Italy and has no interest in leaving his country to play in the Premier League this summer.
Our view
Scamacca really is a fantastic talent. He’s young, clinical and would’ve offered Arteta something different to what Arsenal currently have. It’s a shame for the Gunners that he doesn’t want to leave Italy this summer, but it’s not the end of the world.
As great a signing as Scamacca would’ve been for Arsenal, there are definitely multiple different options available on the market who are arguably a lot better than the Italian.
Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad have all been linked, and every one of them would be a better signing than the talented Scamacca.
It will be interesting to see who Arteta and Edu will go for in the coming weeks after reportedly failing in their attempt to sign the Sassuolo star.
