Arsenal set to walk away from deal to sign ‘phenomenal’ attacker, Edu will move on to new targets:- report

Arsenal are apparently set to walk away from talks designed at signing Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, thanks to his huge asking price

Osimhen has emerged on the radar for Arsenal once again as they continue their extensive pursuit of a new number nine for the new season. The Nigerian striker has become one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, with his mix of speed, power, and obviously, excellent finishing

However, while Arsenal are keen, a report from Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via Goal) has claimed that The Gunners could be about to pull the plug on any potential deal thanks to Napoli’s enormous asking price. It’s suggested the Italian side want was much as £103m to let Osimhen go, a fee which would smash Arsenal’s transfer record.

Despite being labelled as a ‘phenomenal’ player, over £100m for a new striker is enough to put most clubs off. Indeed, the price seems to have jumped from the £77m mentioned just a few weeks ago.

It means that Arsenal, Edu and Mikel Arteta could be forced to move on in their pursuit of fresh blood. The likes of Gabriel Jesus are being heavily linked.

Our view

There is wanting a new number nine, and then there is being over priced for that number nine. And that’s how it feels Napoli are treating Arsenal here.

£100m+ for any player in world football is massive, let alone a player who has – in reality – only had a few good seasons doing the business at the top level.

For Arsenal, the key for them is getting the right player and at the right price. The Gunners board is willing to spend, but spending more than £100m on a single striker is a big risk. Osimhen, then, might be best being left alone.
