Barcelona ‘working tirelessly’ on Manchester United swap deal involving Paul Pogba

Barcelona are reportedly working tirelessly on a swap deal for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

The France international has just one year left on his Old Trafford contract.

And that means the Red Devils must sell him now or risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Pogba is very much in Manchester United’s plans as they plot a way to Premier League title glory next time out.

But, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refusing to contemplate selling the 28-year-old, talk of a move away is gathering speed.

Paris Saint-Germain are big admirers of Pogba, while Real Madrid and Juventus have also had longstanding interest.

Yet Mundo Deportivo say Barcelona would also love to sign the World Cup winner, and have been working ‘tirelessly’ on a swap deal with Manchester United.

As things stand, the La Liga side are unable to register any new signings.

So, in order to enhance their squad, they’re looking at other ways around the issue – especially with a new contract for Lionel Messi still not sorted.

The report doesn’t name who Barcelona are offering to the Red Devils in return.

But it seems as though Joan Laporta wants a Galactico name to kickstart his second spell at the helm – and Pogba would certainly fit the bill.

Barcelona were previously confident of signing Pogba back in the summer transfer window of 2018, shortly after the midfielder’s heroics for his country at the World Cup.

The player was unhappy at the time, having fallen out with Jose Mourinho behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Barcelona then explored the possibility of a deal, offering £45million plus Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes in order to secure the signature of the France international.

But, in the end, that didn’t work out.

United refused to let Pogba go, insisting Barcelona’s offer was far too low and flatly refusing to negotiate.

And the midfielder has improved under Solskjaer in the time since, though his lack of consistency has still infuriated certain people associated with the club.

There are several Barcelona players who could feasibly be of interest to United.

One is Antoine Griezmann, even though Atletico Madrid appear to be frontrunners in the race to recruit the 30-year-old.

United wanted to land the forward shortly after winning the Europa League in 2017, only for Atletico’s transfer ban to get in the way.

And it’s possible they’ll be open to taking him on board, even if they’re well-stocked in attack at the current moment in time.

Defender Samuel Umtiti has long been on the club’s radar, too.

And United have found themselves linked with Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele over the past 12 months, even if Barcelona would prefer both to stay.

Former United star Teddy Sheringham recently opened up on Pogba and expressed a belief that he should be sold because he ‘isn’t a top player’.

“It’s a funny situation, isn’t it?” he told The United Stand.

“He’s got a year to go and could go on a free and go and get himself an absolute fortune – as if they don’t earn enough money now.

“I think if United or Ole got vibes that’s what he was trying to do, I’m sure he’d try to sell him now and get as much as he could for him.

“Whether that’s the right thing or the wrong thing. He’s sometimes played in midfield and sometimes been left out, but if you’re a top player you don’t get left out.”
