Chelsea are ‘really looking into a deal for Erling Haaland’, it has been claimed.
The Borussia Dortmund star is a top Thomas Tuchel transfer target.
And despite the obvious complexities such a deal would involve, the Blues remain keen to get it done.
Tuchel is prepared to offload Tammy Abraham, despite the England international being the club’s joint top goalscorer last term.
Olivier Giroud may also leave, while Timo Werner is primed to start more matches on the wing instead of down the middle.
Since winning the Champions League, talk of Chelsea potentially moving for Haaland has gathered momentum.
The Norway international is one of world football’s hottest talents and bagged 40 goals across all competitions last term, enhancing his reputation as a future superstar.
And Eurosport’s Dean Jones has now claimed Chelsea are ‘really looking into’ a deal for Haaland – and believes the Blues may have the perfect window when it comes to winning the race.
“Erling Haaland is one they’re really looking into,” Jones told The Football Terrace podcast.
“Because there might be a window here for Chelsea to kind of skip the queue and get Haaland before anybody else can.
“You saw them do this with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz last year.
“Chelsea weren’t really involved in all the rumours over those two players. They became available, Liverpool were stuttering over Werner, Havertz there wasn’t even talk about too much.
“And Chelsea, behind the scenes, go and get their work done, do their homework on the players and there they are with the cash.
“That’s what Chelsea do, they make things happen. Because they’ve got the funds to do that, they’ve got the brains of their recruitment staff, that can go and do those days.
“Marina Granovskaia is very smart, she doesn’t take prisoners when it comes to talks. And she usually finds a way to get what she wants.”
Whether Chelsea can sign Haaland, however, remains to be seen.
Borussia Dortmund would want a fee in the region of £150million to let the 20-year-old go, especially with Jadon Sancho primed to join Manchester United.
Yet it seems Chelsea are probing nonetheless.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with the England international determined to leave north London.
But Chelsea stand little chance of striking a deal given Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sell to a Premier League rival.
Manchester City are still favourites for Kane but even they may struggle to get a deal done, despite their huge financial muscle.
And whether the Blues can land Haaland is something only time will tell, especially with Dortmund so adamant he won’t be sold.
Speaking earlier in the year, talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy urged Chelsea to get a deal for the Norwegian over the line.
“I know it’s ridiculous saying this, but you could get Haaland quite cheap [this summer],” Cundy said. “I think Dortmund might be tempted at £100million.
“That’s double and above what they’re going to get next year [when his release clause becomes active].
“You’re probably going to get him at £120million.
“He’s in so much control and power. He might decide he wants to stay at Dortmund for another year where he’s enjoying his football and he’s progressing nicely.
“He’s obviously settled into the system and the way they’re playing.
“From what I’ve seen I don’t think there’s too many systems he can’t be effective in.
“He’s got a little bit of everything, he’s an absolute monster.”
