Erling Haaland may reconsider Man United stance as doubts emerge over ‘unhappy’ signing

Erling Haaland may be reconsidering whether to join Manchester United next summer after doubt was cast on whether Jadon Sancho is “happy” at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are expected to join the race to sign Haaland next summer when the Borussia Dortmund striker’s reported £68million release clause becomes active.

Haaland would join his former Dortmund team-mate Sancho if he were to make the move to Old Trafford, after United signed the England winger for £73m back in July.

But the striker might be weighing up whether United is the right move for him in light of Sancho’s lack of action since joining the Red Devils.

That’s the view of Stefan Effenberg, who believes Dortmund are still the ideal club for Haaland at this stage in the 21-year-old’s career.

And the ex-Germany international questioned whether Sancho might regret his move to United given he has made just two Premier League starts so far.

“As for Haaland’s future and the speculation about a transfer: Borussia Dortmund are the perfect club for his development,” the former Bayern Munich midfielder wrote in his column for Sport1.

“He can still earn more money elsewhere, but that can’t be everything, the money comes out on its own.

“Take Jadon Sancho, who was hellbent on leaving the club and went to Manchester United, where he can make more money. But is he happy where he hardly plays? If he had stayed at BVB…”

Haaland would have to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo for a place up front if he were to join United – although he could of course benefit hugely from playing with arguably the greatest goalscorer in football history.

Sancho made his United debut from the bench in the 5-1 thrashing of Leeds on the opening day of the Premier League season.

He also played half an hour of the 1-1 draw at Southampton, before starting in wins over Wolves and Newcastle.

The winger was then unfortunate to be sacrificed early on against Young Boys as Solskjaer reshuffled his side following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s dismissal, with United going on to lose their Champions League opener 2-1.

Sancho hasn’t started in the Premier League since then, having come on as a sub in the win over West Ham before remaining on the bench during Saturday’s Old Trafford defeat to Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old did play his first 90 minutes for United in last week’s Carabao Cup clash against West Ham, in which a weakened Red Devils side lost 1-0 to David Moyes’ men.

He will surely be given more game time as he builds up his match fitness and adapts to his new surroundings, having also been used sparingly by England boss Gareth Southgate at Euro 2020 this summer.

Meanwhile, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke dismissed claims the club’s giants’ financial situation might force them to cash in on Haaland, describing such speculation as “bulls***”

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea set to battle it out for Atletico Madrid forward

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all set to battle it out for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.

Felix has endured a difficult start to the season for Atletico and is yet to score in five starts in the league.

Last season wasn’t much better for Felix, only managing 24 league starts.
With competition up top including French international Antoine Griezmann, Felix is often used as a rotation option under Diego Simeone.

Now, according to Fichajes, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal all interested in signing the striker.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea will need to find a long-term replacement for their current first-choice strikers.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are both reaching the latter stage of their careers for their respective clubs, so bringing a player with a similar age profile to Felix would be a smart move.

A move to Arsenal may not benefit Felix’s development as much, with Gabriel Jesus performing exceptionally well for the North London club and still only 25 years old.

Manchester United and fellow Premier League clubs are counting down the days until they can strike-up further business in the transfer market. Erik ten Hag welcomed six players to Old Trafford during his first window and they have all made their mark in the starting XI.

Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have all quickly become mainstays, while Antony broke a record set by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he scored on Sunday night. That 2-1 victory over Everton also saw former Real Madrid player Casemiro handed his first Premier League start for the club.

Martin Dubravka was the other recruit, signing on a season-long loan from Newcastle.

With one eye on January and future windows, meanwhile, United are understood to still have Frenkie de Jong on their radar, while elite clubs from across Europe will be queuing up for Jude Bellingham should he decided to leave Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the near transfer window.
