It’s a tough tie for them’: Michael Owen makes Champions League prediction for United after Atletico Madrid draw

“I think it’s a tough tie for Manchester United but, on the backdrop of having played PSG only a couple of hours ago, they will take it. It’s slightly easier than PSG.

“Man City’s is slightly easier again. It’s only Liverpool who have got a harder one. Chelsea, of course, got the same.

“Manchester United’s draw is probably about par in terms of difficultly level. It’s a game which could absolutely go either way. Atletico aren’t on the top of their form at the moment, nor are Manchester United.

“The next couple of months will be really important [to see] which way that tie goes. Let’s look at the form leading up to that game. At the minute, I don’t see much between the two sides,” he further added.

Owen does believe that all 4 Premier League sides should make it to the Champions League quarter-finals this season.

United have never faced Atletico in this competition in their history, but have a special weapon in Cristiano Ronaldo – who has scored 7 goals in 10 UCL appearances against the La Liga side in the past
