Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has heaped praise on team-mate Mason Greenwood and believes he’ll be one of the world’s most talked-about players in the next few years.
Greenwood is on a hot streak of goalscoring form and has helped Man United to a positive start this season.
Concerns have been raised over the 18-year-old’s development after the spectacular summer arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But he has shown no signs of slowing down after starting the 2021/2022 campaign as he finished 20/21.
Greenwood has been directly involved in 10 goals – scoring nine and assisting one – in his last 11 Premier League appearances.
He’ll currently be one of the first names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team sheet, especially whilst Marcus Rashford continues to be absent as he recovers from shoulder surgery.
Shaw was recently on media duties to promote Man United’s 2021/2022 home, away and third kits in partnership with Adidas football.
The left-back made a bold claim about Greenwood and described the teenage sensation as ‘scary.’
He told YouTube channel UMM: “He hates coming up against me in training! But the talent he’s got is so scary it’s unbelievable.
“I think he’ll be one of the most talked about players in the world in the next 2 or 3 years.”
Club captain Harry Maguire has also previously spoken extremely highly of Greenwood and the talent he possesses.
“He’s so young, so refreshing. He’s got everything – every attribute to keep pushing on and improving,” Maguire explained.
“You’ve seen he can play down the right and the middle as well. I think the hardest thing in training is that you can’t give him a yard because if you give him a yard, it ends up in the back of the net; his finishing is that good.
“In a five-a-side you always want him on your team because he’s always one of the top goalscorers!”
Jadon Sancho expressed his excitement over playing with ‘crazy’ Greenwood upon joining Man United in a £73million deal this summer.
He said: “That’s going to be a crazy link up when Marcus gets back. Obviously, I’ve seen a bit of Mason recently in training – he’s crazy.
“We’re still getting to know each other, obviously movements and things like that, getting our understanding, but it’s going to be crazy all three of us on the pitch.”
Greenwood will look to continue his hot streak of form when the Red Devils host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
