Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak excited supporters with determined comments on Tuesday evening.
Fresh off their heartbreaking Champions League final defeat, City look set to splash the cash again to bolster Pep Guardiola’s all-star squad.
The Citizens enjoyed another trophy-winning season in 2020/21, lifting a fifth Premier League title and a fourth successive League Cup.
Guardiola now has eight trophies to his name as manager at the Etihad Stadium, just five seasons after taking charge in 2016.
City were widely expected to lift their first-ever Champions League and secure a treble against Chelsea last week.
However, the Blues ran out 1-0 winners in Porto, which put a dampener on what was still another successful campaign for Guardiola’s side.
Speaking ahead of the summer transfer window, City chairman Al-Mubarak has insisted that the club aren’t content with ‘just’ winning the Premier League.
In a statement that will undoubtedly put England’s top teams on notice, City could be planning to increase their dominance further ahead of the new campaign.
He said: “One of the things I’ve learned over the years is, you need to constantly bring in talent into the team, refresh and particularly when you are at a high level and when you’re on the top.
“Having won the league, it is not the time to sit back and be content. That would be your biggest mistake.
“This is the time to send a strong message, that there’s no contentment, that you’re not satisfied with just winning the league.
“That’s great, but you want to win it again, and you are committed, and you are bringing more talent that is going to compete, not for the squad, but the starting XI.
Al-Mubarak also provided a significant hint regarding City’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Guardiola is reportedly looking at either Kane or Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland to replace club legend Sergio Aguero.
Al-Mubarak suggested that the current squad is exceptional, but he made it clear that the club will acquire quality this summer.
More notably, though, he expressed his confidence that City will find the perfect player to fill the void Aguero has left e.
“We lose a very important legend in Sergio Aguero,” Al-Mubarak explained.
“They are very hard shoes to fill, but I’m confident that we will find the right player to fill those shoes.
“There are other areas within the group, within the team that need investment. Not too many. It’s not about numbers; it’s about quality.
“I think the squad is phenomenal. You don’t win the Premier League, and you don’t reach the Champions League final if you don’t have an incredible squad – and we have that.
“We will bring quality into the squad in a couple of key positions.”
