Harry Kane has made a decision on his future, according to renowned transfer specialist journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has reaffirmed reports that claim Kane has expressed his desire to leave Tottenham to Daniel Levy after becoming increasingly frustrated with the direction of the club, although it’s reported he hasn’t submitted a transfer request.
It’s also suggested Manchester City are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Kane amid this week’s developments, with Pep Guardiola searching in the transfer market for a traditional centre-forward to replace the goals of the outgoing Sergio Aguero.
Kane is believed to have refused a new contract at Tottenham and the two-time Golden Boot winner has previously made it clear he harbours ambitions to win trophies, which surely makes playing for the Blues an incredibly attractive proposition.
In regards to another transfer rumour, Spanish outlet Fichajes claim City are interested in signing Leicester’s James Maddison this summer, with the club’s board vowing to give Guardiola the firepower he needs to sign ‘unbelievable’ players.
Chelsea and rivals Manchester United have been linked with a move with Maddison, although it’s believed Guardiola is an admirer of the playmaker, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the Catalan’s love of creative midfielders.
According to the MEN signing a striker is City’s priority in the transfer window.
Harry Kane gives ‘farewell’ lap.
Harry Kane was one of a handful of Tottenham players who stayed on the pitch to clap the fans after the disappointing defeat by Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
Spurs slipped to a 2-1 loss against Villa in front of 10,000 home supporters as their hopes of securing European football took a hit.
Tottenham started the brighter of the teams and took the lead when Steven Bergwijn took advantage of a mistake from Marvelous Nakamba to smash a powerful shot into the top corner after just eight minutes.
But that was as good as it got for Ryan Mason’s side, who struggled for any rhythm as Villa dominated the chances.
Dean Smith’s side were level after 20 minutes when Sergio Reguilon somehow managed to slice Nakamba’s hopeful cross past Hugo Lloris to score a calamitous own goal.
And after Villa spurned a few good openings, Reguilon was once again involved in gifting them what turned out to be the winner.
The Spurs left-back failed to clear the ball on two occasions, with his charged-down pass dropping to Ollie Watkins, who did well to beat Lloris at his near post from close range.
Spurs were booed off at half-time by their own fans, who had returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time in 14 months following the easing of coronavirus lockdown statistics.
Things didn’t improve after the break, with Villa actually spurning further opportunities to make the game safe and Kane quiet up the other end.
Defeat saw Tottenham remain on 59 points, level with Everton, who beat Wolves 1-0, ahead of their final match of the season against Leicester on Sunday.
Spurs fans were understandably frustrated throughout the match, with Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and substitute Gareth Bale unable to conjure an equaliser.
As well as making their feelings known about the performance, supporters sang the popular “he’s one of our own” chant for Kane, which carried greater meaning amid rumours linking their star player with a move away from the club.
Kane has reportedly told chairman Daniel Levy he wants to leave this summer, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all said to be interested.
One young family held a placard which said: “Harry & Dele, My favourite players, Please Don’t Ever Leave Spurs”, while another supporter’s read: “Harry Kane. Tottenham Legend.”
After the final whistle – when Spurs were booed once again – Kane, Bale, Lloris, Son, Alli, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Toby Alderwerield stayed on the pitch, walking around to applaud their fans in every stand for the first time since March 2020.
Having suffered a disappointing defeat – their 12th in 37 league games – Kane looked downbeat, leaving some to wonder whether this might be the last time they see the 27-year-old striker play for the club in the flesh.
He is contracted to Spurs for another three years and is yet to hand in a formal transfer request, but if the club receive an offer in excess of £100million, then it will surely test Levy’s resolve.
