Man City suffer major injury blow ahead of the Champions League final clash with Chelsea

Manchester City have suffer major injury blow ahead of Champions League final clash with Chelsea Fc.

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City have suffered a major injury blow as midfielder Ilkay Gundogan limped out of training ahead of the mega Champions League final against Chelsea on Saturday.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola named a fully fit 24-man squad for the all-English Champions League final against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto, Portugal.

However, Guardiola has been hit with a big blow, with Ilkay Gundogan, 30, leaving Manchester City’s final training session in pain.

The Manchester Evening News claim Gundogan was in pain after throwing himself at a cross for a diving header and colliding with teammate Fernandinho in the process.

The German midfielder had to be helped back to his feet, and while he suffered from a minor limp, it is difficult to estimate the significance of his injury.

Gundogan has been one of City’s best players this season, with the midfield ace consistently delivering the goods.

With 17 goals across all competitions, he has enjoyed the best goalscoring campaign of his career to date.

In fact, the 30-year-old is currently City’s top goal scorer.

He has been scoring goals left, right and centre, as the Sky Blues swept the rest of the Premier League aside to claim the title.

The German international was taken off early in the second half as a precaution after he had picked up a knock in City’s shock 3-2 defeat at Brighton earlier this month.

The central midfielder, who was the catalyst to the Guardiola-managed side’s mid-season revival, was an unused substitute in the final day demolishing of Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.

Gundogan leaving City’s final training session ahead of the club history’s biggest game of the season is likely to leave Guardiola in splits.

Guardiola simply cannot afford to lose the German international—one of his most reliable and experienced campaigners—due to injury against Chelsea.

Let’s hope Gundogan’s injury isn’t a serious one and that he’ll be fully fit and ready to put in an inspiring show in midfield to deliver Manchester City the coveted Champions League trophy.
