Man United and Chelsea agree over center-back transfer as club decide to sell

Manchester United and Chelsea both agree on what they would pay Raphael Varane if he were to join their respective club this summer, according to reports.

Varane is out of contract at Real Madrid at the end of next season and Los Blancos are prepared to sell the Frenchman to prevent him from leaving the club for nothing.

United are in the market for a central defender to partner club captain Harry Maguire.

Varane is one of a number of targets linked with the Old Trafford club, with Villarreal’s Pau Torres also on their radar.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to strengthen at the back despite winning the Champions League on Saturday.

However, Varane will not come cheap despite his contract expiring in just over 12 months time.

Spanish outlet Defensa Central says Real want a fee of over £60million (€70m) for the former World Cup winner.

United and Chelsea are listed as the two most likely destinations for Varane in the Premier League.

The report says Varane currently earns £5.1m (€6m) a year in wages at the Bernabeu.

However, United and Chelsea both agree they would pay the 28-year-old double what he currently earns, taking his yearly salary to around £10.3m (€12m).

Defensa Central says both United and Chelsea have contacted Varane to outline their contract offer.

Varane is in the France squad for this summer’s European Championships.

Speaking last week, the defender said he is fully focused on performing for his country and will sort out his future after the tournament.

“This is not the time to talk about my future,” Varane said. “I am focused on the selection, on this Euro.

“It is normal and logical to ask the question, and for my part it is normal and logical to focus on the upcoming deadlines. We are all human beings. We can think about it.

“As for my personal case, I am focused on the objectives that we have in the France team, it is not a subject that I will discuss every day in my room at Clairefontaine.

“I am focused on my goal, and now is not the time to discuss it. If I have to talk about it, it will be directly with the people concerned.”

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea set to battle it out for Atletico Madrid forward

Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all set to battle it out for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.

Felix has endured a difficult start to the season for Atletico and is yet to score in five starts in the league.

Last season wasn’t much better for Felix, only managing 24 league starts.
With competition up top including French international Antoine Griezmann, Felix is often used as a rotation option under Diego Simeone.

Now, according to Fichajes, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal all interested in signing the striker.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea will need to find a long-term replacement for their current first-choice strikers.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are both reaching the latter stage of their careers for their respective clubs, so bringing a player with a similar age profile to Felix would be a smart move.

A move to Arsenal may not benefit Felix’s development as much, with Gabriel Jesus performing exceptionally well for the North London club and still only 25 years old.

Manchester United and fellow Premier League clubs are counting down the days until they can strike-up further business in the transfer market. Erik ten Hag welcomed six players to Old Trafford during his first window and they have all made their mark in the starting XI.

Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have all quickly become mainstays, while Antony broke a record set by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he scored on Sunday night. That 2-1 victory over Everton also saw former Real Madrid player Casemiro handed his first Premier League start for the club.

Martin Dubravka was the other recruit, signing on a season-long loan from Newcastle.

With one eye on January and future windows, meanwhile, United are understood to still have Frenkie de Jong on their radar, while elite clubs from across Europe will be queuing up for Jude Bellingham should he decided to leave Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the near transfer window.
