Manchester United secured a heroic 2-1 win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday to end a run of back-to-back defeats.
Questions were beginning to be asked about manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prior to Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury time winner.
Manchester United have been warned not to act too hastily if results start slipping under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.
The Red Devils have made a steady start to the season, and sit in fourth place in the Premier League.
United had lost three of their last four games before Wednesday’s heroic 2-1 win over Villarreal in the Champions League.
Amid slumps in form in the past, #OleOut has been seen trending on multiple occasions, and there were some calls for questions to be asked after Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa.
However, Solskjaer’s former team-mate at the club Peter Schmeichel insists that the Norwegian is doing a fine job in the Old Trafford hot seat.
The former goalkeeper told TalkSPORT: “It is working quite well and it’s working out quite well for the club as well.
“I don’t think there was a question about how many changes needed to be done once he got the job.
“He didn’t get the job full-time to begin with and the work he has to do is far from finished but I think he is doing really well.
“There’s all sorts of headline likes #OleOut and fair enough if you think that but give me another name.”
Schmeichel also admitted that he was unsure who would takeover if there was a quickfire sacking at United.
And the Dane backed Solskjaer to lead United for at least another five years thanks to his understanding of the club’s culture.
Schmeichel added: “Who can go in and who can change the fortunes of Manchester United in a split second. I don’t see that person out there.
“I am very comfortable with Ole as the Manchester United manager. He has the United DNA running through him, he understands the club and what needs to be done today, next week and also in five years.
“I think that’s important. That continuity of how the club is. Every time we have hooked onto success we have managed to stay there for a long time. I am very happy with What Ole is doing and I see progression.”
