Manchester United have Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane at the top of their transfer wishlist.
However, reports claim the Red Devils are concerned about potentially being ‘ripped off’ when it comes to signing the Borussia Dortmund star.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to strengthen his squad this summer, knowing his side need reinforcements if they’re to win the Premier League title.
Manchester United are determined to bolster their ranks.
Though they finished second in the Premier League table, their defeat to Villarreal in the Europa League final means they still have plenty of work to do if they’re to win the biggest trophies on offer.
United are interested in Sancho, having tried three times to sign the England international in the past.
Yet the Daily Mail say they’re keen not to get ripped off when it comes to bringing the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.
United have spent big on players in the past, only for them to fail to live up to expectations during their stint at the Theatre of Dreams.
Paul Pogba has never justified his £89million price tag after returning from Juventus back in the summer transfer window of 2016, while the jury is still out on Harry Maguire.
Romelu Lukaku lasted just two years upon touching down from Inter Milan in 2017, while Angel Di Maria spent a solitary campaign in English football after arriving from Real Madrid seven years ago.
And with United keen not to overpay for Sancho, those concerns suggest a deal taking the Dortmund star to Old Trafford is far from guaranteed.
Regarding Varane, it’s said the Red Devils are ‘working on’ the signing of the Real Madrid star.
Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to bring the centre-back to the club a decade ago, believing he’d be the perfect long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
But United ended up missing out, with Varane lured to Real Madrid instead.
Now, with the player’s contract expiring next year, there’s every chance Los Blancos will cash in on their prized asset.
And that would be a major boost if United can snap him up, especially given his status as one of the best defenders on the planet.
The report also touches upon the Kieran Trippier situation, with the Atletico Madrid star wanted by United to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.
They’ve seen Alex Telles galvanise Luke Shaw on the opposite flank, with the England international currently enjoying the best form of his career.
And United are keen to repeat the trick with Trippier.
It’s stated they’re not alone in eyeing the former Tottenham star, however, with Everton also exploring a deal ahead of the summer transfer window.
Yet United will likely fancy their chances, especially given the fact Solskjaer’s side have Champions League football to offer.
Fabio Da Silva said earlier in the campaign that Wan-Bissaka needed somebody to keep him on his toes, with the Brazilian fully aware of the pressures of playing for the club.
“If you see how Luke Shaw is doing this season, I think it’s the best season he’s been having for so long at Man United,” he said.
“Telles has made him improve, someone to say ‘if you’re not playing well, if you’re not concentrating, working hard, you’re going to lose your place’.
“This definitely makes you play better, so for Wan-Bissaka if they bring in a good right-back, you’re going to help him to improve.
“One hundred per cent, this is what makes players compete for their place, and to improve.
“If you play every game, you have no competition and you can start to get in a comfort zone, it’s not good for you.”
Fabio did claim, though, that Wan-Bissaka had already improved.
“I think he’s already improved, to be honest,” he said.
“I watch a lot of Man United, I follow them, and before he arrived I thought as an offensive full-back for United, he’s not going to do it.
“Everyone knew he was a great defender, his positioning is good, but at the beginning I thought: ‘I don’t know’.
“But now, really, he has improved a lot. He can still improve more, he is young, but now he’s a much better offensive player than when he arrived. So if he keeps improving, he will be a fantastic player, I really like him.”
