Manchester United have struggled to string together a run of wins this season and this is tied to a failure to be clinical in front of goal.
Part of it is also down to mindset, with this United side failing to display the ruthless edge necessary to steamroller opponents.
Potential United boss Erik Ten Hag has shown he has that this season, with his Ajax side scoring more than 100 goals in all comeptitions already.
Ajax won 3-2 at the weekend against RKC Waalwijk, and had an uncharacteristic bump on the way to three points, giving up a 2-0 half-time lead for the opponents to tie at 2-2, before Dusan Tadic struck a late winner.
Ten Hag was not happy with his team, and showed his attacking attitude with his post-match comments.
The Dutchman told ESPN Netherlands: “If it is 2-0 at halftime, then you should actually run to 5-0. That often happens, but not tonight. We escaped.
“There was a dramatic switch. Then we started taking a lot of risk. Taking too much risk.”
Ten Hag likes his teams to attack, in a controlled manner, not a cavalier way. It does not always go to plan, but this season more often than not, his Ajax side have won games, and won them heavily.
United need a manager with a confident winning attitude like this. The current squad lack belief, and need a coach who can bring an overhaul.
