Man United ‘plot move for Ajax star Antony’ as Erik Ten Hag interest intensifies

Manchester United are reportedly interested in a move to sign Ajax winger Antony, who could potentially be joined by Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford should a move come to fruition.

The 21-year-old Brazilian is quickly emerging as one of the brightest young attacking prospects in not only Europe but world football following his move to Amsterdam from Sao Paulo in 2020.

Since then, Antony has consistently showcased his star quality in the Eredivisie, where he has netted seven times in 18 outings so far this term.

He has already bettered his stats from last season (10 goals in 46 apps), registering 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions from 25 outings for Ajax.

Antony was one of the stars of this season’s Champions League group stages as he continues to put his name up in lights.

He fires two goals and four assists as the Dutch giants won all six of their matches in Group C against Sporting, Besiktas and Borussia Dortmund.

According to 90min, United are one of several Premier League clubs currently taking note of Antony’s performances.

The Red Devils are said to be enchanted by the Brazil international’s ability to come inside from the right flank and score goals.

With Mason Greenwood’s future at the club currently unclear and Jesse Lingard set to depart, United are set to consider some attacking reinforcements this summer.

United are not the only top-flight in contention though with Chelsea and Liverpool also thought to be keen.

Of course, the Reds’ thirst for another forward has now been quenched following the arrival of Luis Diaz from Porto in January.

However, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s long-term future still unclear, Liverpool are keeping their options open.

Antony is predominantly a right-winger but he can also be utilised from the left.

There is a feeling he could be on course to leave Ajax at the end of the season too, when Steven Bergwijn could return to Holland from Tottenham.

In the past few weeks, Ten Hag instructed the board to sign former PSV Eindhoven winger Bergwijn following the sale of David Neres to Shakhtar Donestk in January but Spurs failed to budge on their asking price after rejecting an opening offer.

The Ajax manager could also be on his way with United thought to be considering both Ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the summer.

Ten Hag signed a new contract with Ajax last year amid interest from Tottenham but if United make a play for his services, he could reconsider his future.

United opted against spending in the January transfer window to ensure the new manager has the freedom to invest when he takes over from Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.
