Man United set to snub Sir Alex Ferguson’s transfer advice and take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s

Ralf Rangnick is set to get to work putting his own mark on the Manchester United squad once the January transfer window opens next month, and the club could make some big moves.

The club seem set to sell two players from the first-team squad – although one of those was once touted to be “our best ever player” by United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Meanwhile, one of the other outgoings is a star who former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly wanted to get rid of over the summer.

And with the festive fixture pile-up set to begin, United have five first-team stars facing a possible one-match ban going into the clash against Newcastle.

Here are Idusport latest Manchester United headlines.

Players facing bans

Five United players could end up missing crucial games over the festive period if they pick up one more yellow card.

With the Red Devils set to travel to Newcastle on Monday, then host Burnley the following Thursday, interim manager Ralf Rangnick will want every player available to ensure the club doesn’t fall further behind their Premier League rivals in the race for Champions League football.

It means several key first-team players will be treading a fine line during the encounter at St James’ Park.

United set to sell Sir Alex’s ‘future star’

Manchester United appear set to finally cut their losses with centre-back Phil Jones.

Jones arrived at Old Trafford to much excitement when he joined the club from Blackburn Rovers back in 2011.

And former boss Sir Alex Ferguson even made a very bold prediction about the defender in 2013.

But he has suffered through multiple injuries and fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and the club and player now both seem to agree that a move could be in both their best interests.

Solskjaer’s advice

Another player set to finally depart the club is Anthony Martial, who former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have wanted to get rid of last summer.

The former United boss was reportedly keen to reinvest the funds from Martial’s departure elsewhere in the squad – and is said to have been particularly frustrated at not getting a defensive midfielder in.

With Martial’s agent this week confirming his client is seeking a move elsewhere – Solskjaer’s big transfer plan appears to be coming to fruition.
