Man United’s sudden Ole Gunnar Solskjaer U-turn suggests Ed Woodward’s plan has been accepted

Manchester United have apparently U-turned on their decision to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with fresh reports suggesting the axe could soon land on the Norwegian.

Important results have gone against the Red Devils in recent weeks with United losing at home to both bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, and slipping to sixth in the table.

Solskjaer has reportedly had the backing of the United board in recent weeks, with Red Devils top brass still of the belief that he is the right man for the club, despite the decline.

The Norwegian is a legend at Old Trafford and garners respect from those around him at Man United.

But there doesn’t appear to be an obvious plan in place to turn things around and now The Sun is reporting it is a matter of when not if Solskjaer will be sacked by United.

Solskjaer jetted off to Norway with his family to clear his head following the defeat by Man City.

The manager was entitled to do this as the international break is now underway, but the Man United stars who have not been selected to play for their countries are said to have been surprised by the decision.

Many allegedly expected to be training at Carrington this week and working on a plan to turn things around.

According to reports, Woodward is putting a replacement plan in place should results continue to spiral and Man United are required to relieve Solskjaer of his duties.

Woodward’s plan would see the Norwegian replaced by Ralf Rangnick.

And it seems United top brass are on board with this suggestion amid reports that Solskjaer’s position is no longer as secure as it was just a few weeks ago.

Other names on Woodward’s shortlist include Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Mauricio Pochettino.

Solskjaer’s dwindling support both in the terraces and now inside the dressing room is filtering into the board room and the Norwegian is fighting an uphill battle to stay in his job.

Even former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand recently suggested the manager should stand aside.

“He’s done actually what he’s been brought in to do,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel of Solskjaer. “He’s come in and given the fans hope again, made the fans want to come back and watch your team again.

“He’s done that. He has done a great job in that sense. But is he going to take us to win titles? Is he going to make us challenge to win a Champions League?

“You need the foundations that have been built to fall back on when you are lacking that confidence. When you’re thinking a five, a 10-yard ball that is normally easy becomes a difficult ball – the foundations get you through that. We (United) ain’t got that.

“The football club will be living here and breathing here longer than any individual. It’s what’s best for this football club.

“I just feel that maybe it might be time now for the baton to be handed over. Who can take us on now? And I think Ole would leave now with his head held high.”

  1. OGS has shown his ability and I think is time to let go as the fans want.
    But the question is:-
Are the player’s ready to give out their best (more especially the defense line which include the defensive midfielder) because this is the worst defense Manutd ever produce. Conceding useless goals anyhow as if they are not professionals.
