Man Utd transfer round-up as Pau Torres addresses transfer speculation amid interest

Manchester United are doing their best to keep themselves in the headlines with their summer transfer activity.

After finishing second last season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for new recruits with the mission of achieving a first Premier League crown in eight years.

It appears that Jadon Sancho is their top priority but another target who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester is Villarreal’s Pau Torres, who has recently spoken about the rife speculation surrounding his future.

The Red Devils are targeting at least one new defender in the market as Solskjaer looks to take his team to the next level and bring the glory days back to the club.

Here is our rounds up the latest transfer news from Old Trafford.

Torres talks

After reportedly making progress on the move, United target Torres has now spoken out amid speculation surrounding his potential departure from Villarreal.

The 24-year-old was part of the Yellow Submarine side who beat the Red Devils in this year’s Europa League final and has started both of Spain’s Euro 2020 Group E matches to continue his rise.

Torres spoke to Goal about a possible exit, and he responded in an unsurprisingly coy manner, admitting his focus is elsewhere rather than on his club future right now.

“I have a contract at Villarreal, I just won the first title for the club, we have qualified for the Champions League and it is something that excites me a lot,” he revealed.

“Now I’m focused on the Euros. Then the Super Cup and nice things will come, so I’m totally calm. I live in my home town, very quiet, doing beautiful things and fighting for great things with my hometown team.

“I’m totally calm, right now I am only focused on the European Championship, on Wednesday [when Spain face Slovakia].”

Madrid concern over Varane

Another centre-back target United have been linked to is reported Real Madrid wantaway, Raphael Varane.

Currently representing France at the tournament, the 28-year-old, believed to be valued at £68m, has not publicly discussed his future, something causing concern in the Spanish capital.

Sport Witness have ran El Confidencial’s story, who claim they have sources suggesting Varane’s silence has made Santiago Bernabeu chiefs nervous.

Los Blancos have come to the conclusion that he doesn’t want to renew his current deal, with a suspicion Varane has a ‘very important agreement’ with another club, mainly thought to be the Red Devils.

The report ends by saying: ‘The renewal has entered a point of tension in which Raphael Varane is managing to wear out Real Madrid to see if they really reach the figures that other clubs can give him.’

Last week, the Manchester Evening News reported that United had bid £50m for the Frenchman – also said to be a Paris Saint-Germain target – whose contract expires in 12 months’ time.
