Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling has been offered to FC Barcelona.
The 27-year-old wants to leave the PremierPINC +2.2% League champions this summer,
and Barca have returned to being one of his choice destinations, as they were in the summer of 2021, amid strong interest in the player by Chelsea.
Given that his contract expires on June 30 next year, Sterling would be available at a cut-rate free and City would also be glad to have him off their books.
Trying to force a move out of Manchester for their client, it is said that Sterling has been offered to other outfits such as Real Madrid and Arsenal, in addition to the Blaugrana and Chelsea, by his agents.
Chelsea are believed to have offered around €40mn ($42mn) for Sterling to City,
who are pushing for something closer to €50mn ($52.5mn) given they paid €63mn ($66mn) for him from Liverpool in 2015.
Barca sounded out signing Sterling last year, and in the winter transfer market at the turn of 2022 while instead opting for his City teammate at the time in Ferran Torres.
With the continuity of Ousmane Dembele at Camp Nou in doubt given the Frenchman still hasn’t renewed terms ahead of his contract expiring in a week’s time, Sterling is now one of the top choices to reinforce the Catalans’ right wing along with Leeds United’s Raphinha.
Yet while also being cheaper than the Brazilian international, Sterling can offer more in terms of versatility in being able to play up front as a striker too.
Though sometimes falling out of favor with ex-Barca boss Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, Sterling can be considered a success at City given that his seven-year stint there has yielded four Premier League titles,
four League Cups and one FA Cup in addition to an appearance in 2020/2021’s Champions League final.
The Jamaica-born starter for England has netted on 131 occasions in 339 appearances,
and would be a welcomed addition to Xavi Hernandez’s first team in Catalonia while providing more of a goal threat compared to Dembele.
As with Sterling, Chelsea are also one of the leading names that Dembele has been linked to, and the two could still unite at Stamford Bridge.
