Chelsea’s announcement of a contract extension for Thomas Tuchel is likely to be the start of a busy summer for Marina Granovskaia.
The Blues director, who effectively runs the club on a day-to-day basis, shared her delight at the news that the German tactician has extended his stay at Stamford Bridge after leading the side to a famous Champions League victory last weekend with a 1-0 win over Manchester City.
“When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe,” she told the club’s official website.
“He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.
“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.
“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”
Now that Tuchel’s future has been secured, plans to shape the Chelsea squad for next season can begin.
And if reports are to be believed then the Blues’ next six moves have already been decided, which means there could be a few more announcements for fans to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Half of which are new contracts for existing players.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed last month that Thiago Silva’s contract-extension clause will be triggered in the coming weeks.
In addition, contract negotiations with midfield pair N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are set to commence in the coming months, but the club isn’t in any rush to open talks.
Following the Champions League success, there’s has been talk of Granovskaia completing a stunning triple transfer swoop to bolster Tuchel’s first-team squad ahead of next season.
The German reportedly wants to sign at least three new players – a right-wing back, a central midfielder, and a striker this summer.
As a result, the likes of Adama Traore, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are just some of the names being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge to fill those three positions.
It remains to be seen just how much business Chelsea will get done, but they are off to a promising start with Tuchel’s contract announcement.
