‘Next week’: Romano says Arsenal will soon decide whether to bid for ‘incredible’ £40m star; talks underway

Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Youri Tielemans remains the top midfield target for Arsenal, and a decision on whether the Gunners bid for the Leicester City star is likely to be made next week.

Tielemans has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates. His contract with the Foxes expires at the end of next season. And it seems that he has no intention of signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium.

Reports previously claimed that Arsenal and Tielemans were growing confident that a £40 million move was likely. However, that report noted that the Belgian could move elsewhere if the Gunners miss out on Champions League football.

Unfortunately, Arsenal did finish fifth. But it seems that a move for Tielemans remains on the radar.

In fact, Romano has confirmed that the 25-year-old is their top midfield target. He is wanted elsewhere. But Arsenal remain in talks. And a decision on whether they make a bid could be just around the corner.

“Arsenal has already started contacts with the player’s camp for weeks and Tielemans is considered an opportunity on the market because he will not sign a new contract with Leicester City,” Romano told Caught Offside.

“There are two other clubs in contact with his agent, but next week it can be important to really understand if Arsenal is willing to bid for Tielemans or change their strategy.”

Arsenal decision on Tielemans bid next week

Arsenal fans may be a little concerned. Some of their Premier League rivals have wasted little time to get signings through the door.

Aston Villa have three additions already. Meanwhile, Tottenham are closing in on their second signing – albeit a backup goalkeeper.

But it shows that they are not intending to hang around.

Obviously, that should not prompt Arsenal to panic buy. Their transfer strategy has been hugely successful over the last 12 months. But the fans will hope that a decision on Tielemans does indeed come next week.

He is an ‘incredible‘ player. If Arsenal sign him, he could be a brilliant addition. If not, the Gunners need to get on with pursuing other targets.
