Paul Pogba’s brother gives update on Midfielder future at Man United

Paul Pogba’s brother, Mathias, says the midfielder has not decided whether he will stay at Manchester United beyond this season but will do so when it’s the ‘right time’.

The Frenchman is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season and Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all thought to be interested in signing him.

Pogba is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from January  1 but United are hoping to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

However, the 28-year-old’s brother insisted he will not rush into a decision over his future.

‘Paul has yet to decide whether he intends to stay at Manchester United or leave next summer, Mathias told  Spanish TV show El Chiringuito

‘The decision is up to him. Right now, he feels very good at Manchester United, especially this season.

‘We will see. We will see when it is time to make a decision.’

But back in May, Mathias urged his brother to join Barca instead of signing a new contract with United.

When asked to comment on a potential move to the Nou Camp, he told the same TV show: ‘I don’t know anything but I’m with you, I would sign tomorrow if that was the question.

‘Hopefully he will sign for Barca.’

The midfielder has made a strong start to the season with seven assists in four games, with United joint top of the league on 10 points.

Reports this week claimed Pogba is leaning towards staying at United and is ready to begin talks over a contract extension.

The Athletic reported that United’s 4-1 victory against Newcastle on Saturday has had a significant bearing on the World Cup winner’s thinking about his future and that he is having serious second thoughts about leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The report claims Cristiano Ronaldo’s return and Saturday’s events have had a significant positive impact on Pogba, with the feeling now that the midfielder staying at the club is becoming a realistic possibility.

Speaking after the Newcastle win, Solskjaer said: ‘Cristiano lifts everyone, he gets everyone so focused when he’s in and around the place, he puts demands on himself, which then will put demands on his team-mates and it puts demands on us.

‘That’s why he’s done so much in his career. He’s been so disciplined.

‘We knew he’s evolved, he’s developed as a player, he’s a different type of player now compared to what he was when he left, but he’s still a ruthless and clinical goalscorer.

‘He smells the big moments, he senses when there’s a goal in it.’

Pogba’s decision on whether to stay at United will likely depend on the success the club has this season and the offers, if any, that come in for him.
