Pep Guardiola warned two Chelsea players could decide race with Man City and Liverpool

Manchester City have been warned about two players who are set to ignite Chelsea back to peak form in the Premier League title race.

After watching Pep Guardiola and his star-studded table-toppers beat ten-man Wolves at the Etihad Stadium, Thomas Tuchel’s side conjured up some late drama to earn three points against Leeds United.

Chelsea twice found themselves behind in that match, before Jorginho clinched a 3-2 win from the penalty spot deep into additional time.

Mason Mount was also on target after an earlier penalty from Jorginho as well.

It’s a result which sees Chelsea keep pace with City and Liverpool — with only two points separating the top three 16 games into this exciting Premier League season.

Thomas Tuchel and his squad are ranked as outsiders by pundit Danny Murphy, but they will ultimately be boosted when N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic return from injury.

During his latest Mail Online column, Murphy said: “The most significant result on Saturday was Chelsea’s late win against Leeds.

“We all expect Liverpool and Manchester City to contend for the title — so the big question has been whether Chelsea can stick with them.

“To accumulate points and stay in the mix during a difficult time is a real mark of championship contenders, which makes me thinks we might have a genuine three-horse race this season.

“Chelsea have suffered by missing N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, who are key to the way Thomas Tuchel plays. When those two return, the performances will improve – so to remain in the hunt to date is impressive.

“I’d still make City slight favourites, Liverpool next and Chelsea as outsiders. But in truth they are all so packed with quality, part of the fun over the coming months is not knowing what will happen.”
