Manchester United are expected to apply fresh pressure on Ajax to try and sign Brazil winger Antony.
The Times reports one of the winger’s representatives has been in England this week as speculation continues.
The report states: “One of the representatives of Antony, the Ajax winger, is understood to be in Manchester this week.”
The Mail also report the news, stating: “It’s understood that one of the Brazilian’s representatives, Junior Pedroso, was in Manchester for talks on Thursday.”
Antony representative ‘in Manchester’ for talks
Ajax do not wish to lose any more key players this summer, but they are preparing for the fact they might not be able to turn down an offer from United. The Times reports they are looking for £68 million.
The Dutch side have just signed winger Francisco Conceicao from Porto, and they have already admitted he will be Antony’s successor.
Ajax technical manager Gerry Hamstra confirmed this to Het Parool, commenting: “Conceição is another example of bringing the successor, in this case Antony, into your selection.”
He added: “I assume that no one leaves this core anymore. Of course you can never say never, I’ve learned that by now.”
Erik ten Hag signed Antony for Ajax and the winger is said to be ‘determined’ to reunite with the manager at Old Trafford, and follow Lisandro Martinez in making the switch, The Times reports.
Ten Hag has insisted United need another attacking player, telling a press conference: “‘I think it’s vital if you want to get success, the season is really long.
“That is a reason, but also the number of games. You need more options in offence. But we also have still time to fill that in.”
