Ralf Rangnick tells Man United loan star he wants him back at the club

Brandon Williams looks set to remain at Manchester United next season after Ralf Rangnick told the full-back that his future is at Old Trafford.

The England U21 international is on loan at Norwich City and he’s impressed at Carrow Road, winning the Canaries’ player of the month in January.

Williams came through United’s academy and his break in the first team came in 2019, when he deputised for Luke Shaw at left-back.

He can, however, play on both sides and this is something that has caught Rangnick’s eye.

The German had spent just a fortnight at Old Trafford when his side took on Norwich at Carrow Road but the Sun say it was here that Rangnick made a beeline for Williams.

The full-back was inelegible for the match as he couldn’t play against his parent club but Rangnick was more than aware of Williams’ ability and he spoke to the youngster after he caught up with his team-mates.

Rangnick told Williams that he’s been impressed with his development in East Anglia and that he is needed at the Theatre of Dreams.

The German has opted for Diogo Dalot at right-back over Aaron Wan-Bissaka since taking over at United and he wants his full-backs to be comfortable on the ball and able to play as wingers.

Williams has the recovery pace to get up and down the pitch, while he’s comfortable on either foot.

Ultimately, however, the decision could fall to United’s next manager, with the club deciding between the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag.
