The Daily Mail reveal that the Arsenal striker has a lucrative new deal on the table, and there’s a feeling he’s going to sign it in the coming days.
Eddie Nketiah offered new Arsenal contract with increased wages
The report, which has now been updated after the initial story broke yesterday, claims that Arsenal have tabled a bumper deal on the table to convince him to stay.
The 22-year-old currently earns £45,000-a-week (Spotrac) at the Emirates. Now, Arsenal have offered him a contract that would see his wages increase to £100,000-a-week – more than double his current salary.
The contract also reportedly comes with a signing bonus of £5 million, which would be paid over the course of his five-year deal, should he sign it.
If Nketiah accepts the new contract, he would earn more than Bukayo Saka (£33,000-a-week) and Emile Smith Rowe (£42,000-a-week) combined.
Our view
Nketiah was given an opportunity in April when Alexandre Lacazette tested positive for Covid-19. The Englishman started every single game since and ended the campaign with five league goals in eight starts, which is a phenomenal record.
It was always going to be a tricky decision for Arteta and Edu regarding Nketiah’s future.
Letting him leave for nothing would’ve been a real shame, but the fact that Arsenal have left it so late means they have no choice but to overpay to convince him to stay.
It looks like they’re prepared to do that now, and it really is a no-brainer for Nketiah, even though he will not be the first-choice striker at the club next season.
