Barcelona are stepping up their transfer activity ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Having reportedly secured the services of Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free transfers already, the Catalans are now pushing to add more new faces to the roster.
One such player who could be closing in on a move to Camp Nou is Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso. The 31-year-old Spanish international is entering the final year of his contract with the Blues and has decided to move on in the summer, with his heart set on a transfer to Barcelona.
Reports have claimed that negotiations between the left-back and the club have been ongoing for a while now. And, now, Fabrizio Romano is claiming that Alonso is close to agreeing personal terms with Barcelona, taking him another step closer towards a transfer.
Barça are in the need of reinforcements at left-back, where Jordi Alba has had to carry the burden for the entirety of the 2021/22 season without any natural backup in the position.
While several players have been linked with a transfer, the Blaugrana have narrowed in on Alonso as their priority target and are now pushing ahead with their efforts to land the Chelsea ace.
As per Romano, talks between the left-back and Barcelona have been underway for a month now. And the Italian transfer expert also claims that Chelsea will allow the Spanish international to leave in the summer.
With personal terms on the verge of being agreed, the only thing that would remain is the two clubs settling on a transfer fee for the former Real Madrid and Fiorentina ace.
Barcelona do not intend to make a substantial bid for Alonso, given that his contract stands to expire in 2023. It will be interesting to see how much Chelsea demand for the defender and whether the Catalans are willing to meet that valuation.
