Inter Milan star has turned Arsenal down after the Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League, according to a report from The Times.
Of course, Arsenal fans may have been fearful after they finished fifth in the Premier League. Their hopes of landing some of their more ambitious targets were clearly dealt a blow.
Gabriel Jesus is reportedly still open to joining Arsenal. But it seems that another of their targets has no interest in moving to the Emirates after their final week disappointment.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Martinez in the last 12 months. Reports have previously suggested that the Gunners have been in talks with the Inter Milan star.
However, it seems that a recent attempt to sign Martinez has gone badly. The Times reports Martinez has rejected the club after they failed to make the top-four.
Martinez has turned down Arsenal
It may not come as a huge surprise to Arsenal fans to hear that Martinez is not joining this summer. He looks to be very happy at Inter.
And not having Champions League football was always going to hurt Arsenal with some of their targets. It seems that Martinez is one of those with little intention of joining a side in another competition.
Perhaps Arsenal supporters can take encouragement from the fact that they are still pursuing the best. Martinez has been labelled ‘spectacular‘ by Lionel Messi in the past.
He would have been an amazing signing. And while he is not keen to join this summer, there are likely to be other top players who recognise the progress Arsenal are making.
There is still an opportunity for the Gunners to enjoy a game-changing window that allows them to take that next step.
But Martinez is not one planning to make the move as things stand.
