Ousmane Dembele’s situation at Barcelona continues to drag on. At one moment, it is claimed that the winger will be leaving the club as a free agent,
but then reports emerge that the winger has decided to accept the contract offer tabled by the Catalans and stay put.
It is apparent that manager Xavi Hernandez is intent on extending the Frenchman’s stay at Camp Nou.
But with neither the club nor the player seemingly willing to move from their position, the situation does not reflect well for the Blaugrana.
Not only that, but it also seems to be having an adverse effect on the club’s transfer plans.
Indeed as reported by the cover page of SPORT on June 24, with Barcelona still dithering on Dembele’s situation, both Raphinha and Angel Di Maria are still waiting for the club to make approaches.
Raphinha had been identified as the ideal replacement for Dembele, with the Leeds United winger even agreeing on personal terms with the Blaugrana almost three months back.
However, their pursuit of the 25-year-old Brazilian has hit a brick wall due to their financial situation, which has seen the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea emerge as suitors for the winger.
As for Angel Di Maria, the Argentine winger is soon set to become a free agent, with his contract with PSG expiring on June 30.
The veteran star is attracting interest from Juventus, who are keen on signing the ex-Real Madrid ace and have tabled a contract offer.
But, like Raphinha, Di Maria, too, is keen on signing for Barcelona and is waiting for the Blaugrana to make an approach.
However, with Dembele’s situation still unresolved, the Catalans are yet to make a move for Di Maria or Raphinha,
while the latter’s asking price is also proving to be an issue for the club. So, it remains to be seen how the situation evolves in the coming days.
