Rio Ferdinand thinks Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger will “regret” his post-match reaction to their Champions League quarter-final loss to Real Madrid.
The Blues beat Real Madrid 3-1 during the 90 minutes but Karim Benzema’s goal in extra time saw Los Blancos progress 5-4 on aggregate over both legs.
Rudiger had been playing up front during the closing exchanges of the match as Chelsea attempted to find a late goal before Real Madrid defender David Alaba tried to console him at the final whistle.
When Alaba put his arms around Rudiger at the end of the match, the German pushed him away and stormed off before dropping to his knees.
And Ferdinand thinks Rudiger will end up regretting his little outburst but understands why he reacted the way he did.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “It’s emotional, man. And I don’t think he’d necessarily want to react like that or see those pictures.
“But the feeling there you can’t control it. We’ve all been there after big games, I’ve said and done things that you regret, you think: ‘that’s not me, that’s not my normal personality’. But this is what football means to people.”
