Xavi Hernandez gives Barcelona board his list of eight summer targets

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Barcelona must get to work quickly, in regards to their recruitment for the new season.

After a somewhat promising start to Xavi’s spell at Camp Nou, the board is likely to heed the coach’s preferences and bring him players that cater to his system.

To that end, Xavi has handed the Barcelona board a list of eight transfer targets ahead of the new season, as per Spanish journalist Xavi Torres.

The list is led by the two free agents who have agreed personal terms with Barcelona, in the form of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie. They could play a vital role in adding depth to the Barça squad, although the club are yet to confirm their signings.

Xavi was gunning for Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension. But with the Frenchman almost on the verge of leaving Camp Nou, Xavi now wants Barcelona to bring in Leeds United superstar Raphinha.

In addition to the Brazilian, Bernardo Silva and Robert Lewandowski are the other stars added to the list. The Barcelona coach believes they have the quality to add a real edge to the team and help them compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.

As for the defensive unit, it is no secret Xavi wants to sign a new central defender, in addition to Christensen, amid worries over Gerard Pique’s longevity.

Jules Kounde remains the Spaniard’s top target in the summer, although Barcelona are also exploring the deal to sign Kalidou Koulibaly, a cost-effective alternative for the dynamic Frenchman.

Elsewhere in defence, two Chelsea stars Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso complete the list. The two are expected to offer depth and quality in the fullback unit, although Azpilicueta can also be utilised as a potential backup for the central defenders.
